Roland’s ZENOLOGY GX for iPad can now load as an AUv3 instrument inside your session. Version 1.9.3 and later (App Store notes also list a 1.9.4 startup-crash hotfix) bring the full ZEN-Core editing experience into hosts such as Logic Pro for iPad, GarageBand, Cubasis, AUM, and Roland's own Zenbeats — confirmed in Roland’s AUv3 FAQ.

The synthesizer itself stays on Roland’s limited-time Free Experience: with a free Roland Account you get every feature and 4,200+ sounds unlocked during the introductory period. After that window, deep editing and the full stock library move behind select Roland Cloud memberships or a Lifetime Key, while a simpler standalone browse-and-play mode remains. Details are on the Roland Cloud ZENOLOGY GX page and in Roland’s free-experience FAQ.

What the AUv3 update adds

Running as a plug-in means you keep browsing thousands of tones — or building patches from scratch — without leaving the DAW. The AUv3 path includes the complete sound-editing experience, not a stripped player.

Pro Edit Mode opens deeper ZENOLOGY engine parameters in a tab-based, touch-first layout. The same release redesigns the CHORDS and ARP SEQ interfaces and improves the Step LFO editor, with CPU and memory work aimed at a wider range of iPads.

The library side of the update adds 10 Sound Packs curated by Roland staff: 320 synth sounds and 20 drum kits across a spread of styles. The 1.9.4 App Store release notes also list improved SVZ export (auto-naming and saving anywhere via the Files app) and UI scaling that adapts to different AUv3 host window sizes. Sound On Sound has a short write-up of the update too.

ZEN-Core on the iPad

ZENOLOGY GX uses the same ZEN-Core Synthesis System found in ZENOLOGY Pro and in Roland hardware such as FANTOM, JUPITER-X, JUNO-X, RD-88, MC-101, and MC-707. Roland’s comparison note is clear: GX does not load Model Expansions the way ZENOLOGY Pro can — that is the main product split today (GX vs Pro).

Under the hood you still get multi-partial tones, virtual-analog and PCM oscillators, iconic filter models, Step LFOs, and a large Roland effects suite, with SVZ-style sound exchange toward other ZEN-Core instruments when you need hardware handoff. You need a Roland Account inside the app;

How to get it

Download ZENOLOGY GX - Synthesizer from the App Store (iPad), sign in with a free Roland Account, and update to the current build so AUv3 shows up in your host’s instrument list. Official product context lives on Roland Cloud; support articles under ZENOLOGY cover Quickstart, offline use, and pack questions.

If you are filling an October shortlist of new iPad instruments, this sits next to the apps in our October 2026 roundup — especially useful when you want a free ZEN-Core voice inside Logic Pro or AUM rather than only as a standalone synth.
